The PresentSince Independence Ghana has been on the rise. Although there is a good amount of the population in poverty, the nation is still growing. With over 95% of its children in school, Ghana currently has one of the highest school enrollment rates in all of Africa. Since independence, Ghana has been devoted to ideals of nonalignment and is a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement. Ghana is an active member of the United Nations and the African Union. Until recently Ghana was hailed as a model for African growth but since 2013, its economy has struggled due to a weakening currency. Ghana is still a nation made of a variety of different ethnic groups but is now united.
